Modernist Poster is one of the projects I completed for beginning graphic design with Jiwon Son, a poster that announces a talk regarding the beautiful sculpture "Two Figures".
Made by Barbara Hepworth, "Two Figures" (Menhirs) represents the artist's fusion of nature and geometric shapes. The sculpture, made of teak, consists of two vertical forms situated on a platform with ovular cutouts painted white. The two forms can potentially represent people, hence the title, or just simply shapes. Hepworth’s work meshes together aspects of modern design with qualities of nature.
As an attempt to represent the obelisk-like structure of the sculpture, I used the type as building blocks and literally molded the shape of the sculpture with it. This shape immaculately captures the slender and elegant qualities of the sculpture, adding to the cohesiveness of the poster.
